AboutJake
Jake Porter loves to see people happy. But he hates to see people looking for happiness in all the wrong places. That's why he studies and practices life coaching, spiritual direction, and biblical counseling.

In 2010, Jake earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's Havard School for Theological Studies in Houston, Texas.  Also a graduate of Elmira College in New York, Jake received a B.A., magna cum laude, with triple majors in psychology, music, and philosophy and religion. While at Elmira College, he was involved in campus ministry leadership and was inducted as a lifetime member into Psi Chi (the National Honor Society in Psychology) and Omicron Delta Kappa (the National Leadership Honor Society).  Jake is a member of American MENSA.

After training under Dr. Mels Carbonell of the Leadership Institute of America, Jake became an advanced certified Human Behavior Consultant with a specialization in the area of leadership studies. He also completed the National Community Crisis Response Team Training of NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance).

Jake has studied theology at L'Abri in Huemoz, Switzerland; spiritual disciplines with the monks of Taize, an ecumenical monastery in France; and church history and theology at Oxford. He is currently working on the completion of a Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston.

Jake is a sixth-generation resident of Mont Belvieu, Texas, where he serves as the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church.
